Seus dois primeiros álbuns, ...Baby One More Time (1999) e Oops!... I Did It Again (2000), tornaram-se sucessos internacionais, sendo que o primeiro sagrou-se como o disco mais vendido por uma artista adolescente em carreira solo. As respectivas faixas homônimas, "...Baby One More Time" e "Oops!... I Did It Again", obtiveram sucesso comercial e culminaram nas tabelas musicais de vários países.
O sétimo registro de estúdio da artista, Femme Fatale (2011), foi seu primeiro projeto a render três singles nas dez primeiras colocações da parada, nomeadamente "Hold It Against Me", "Till the World Ends" e "I Wanna Go".
