This is my extended version of "Voy A Apagar La Luz" by Luis Miguel.
It is my own humble rendition of this beautiful love ballad composed by Mexican genius Armando Manzanero.
Also there is a story behind me choosing THIS song over so many other beautiful ones by Luis Miguel:
Many years ago I met an elderly lady in Entre Ríos/Argentina who lost her husband in a terrible car accident. She once told me that "Voy A Apagar La Luz" was her all-time favorite song.
She never remarried and she must have been terribly lonely at times, but I guess she wanted to be a shining example for her two young children.
Of course she did not tell me this, but what I got from her words is, that when she was in need she turned off the light, put on this beautiful tune and imagined all the wonderful things that once were and that could have been...
No poem can describe better than the words of Mr. Armando Manzanero, a genius in his own rights, the feelings of this lady that I so dearly admire for her choice and her way of being.
For the record:
This is a homerecording. The original mp3 playback with the strings and the bolero rhythm section was cut, rearranged, overdubbed, enhanced, hard limited and extended with a unique 32-bit software. Throughout the track I play one of the best digital Steinways on this planet, the Ivory Grand. However, my voice was recorded on one of the cheapest condenser microphones around: The Behringer C-1 (worth 39.- Euro). This version is without the Contigo Aprendí coda.
To add to that, here's a little "trivia" around this musical production:
I discarded the second part of Luis Miguel's version "Contigo Aprendí" because I always felt that these two Manzanero compositions are the ultimate love songs and they must not share the same track. I believe that both songs stand for themselves in their melodic and harmonic richness and unique lyrical beauty.
As you might have noticed, I attempt to sing in the veins of the undisputed crooner king Luis Miguel. But of course I don't even come close! However, I hope I did a fairly good job in finding my own alternative phrasings and melodic colorations.
The video was put together with Windows Movie Maker and some images that in my opinion match the sensation of this unbelievably marvelous romance.
And yes, in the end, it's my son! :-)
Feel free to rate & comment.
