A cover of a cover indeed!
Otis Redding is the original artist for "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay, which in itself is an incredible blues composition. But a few years ago I heard a cover that Sara Bareilles performed from her album "Between the Lines: Sara Bareilles Live at the Fillmore". She brought the tempo of the song waaaay down, and in my opinion, added much more emotion and depth. I fell in love with that version the minute I heard it!
Sara Bareilles is one of my all time favorite artists, and I've been wanting to do a cover of one of her songs for ages. A few years ago on a trip to Acadia I thought about how the docks, beaches, and scenery of the island would make an incredible backdrop for a cover of "(Sittin On) The Dock Of The Bay), but with my living in the middle of the country, there was no way for me to feasibly transport all of my instruments and equipment to the coast by plane.
Until recently, that is! I ended up taking a week off of work and crammed all of my gear into my car to make the 1600 mile drive to Mount Desert Island! It was a heck of a drive, and I only had a few short days to film, but I think it turned out great! I had a few strange looks from other tourists as I brought my instruments to the beaches and docks on the island, but I think it was worth it for the video quality!
