I play guitar, compose and teach lessons. Time being as limited as it is these days, I try to stay in shape by learning at least 1 new song whenever I play. I listen, figure out if I will play an exact cover of the guitar part or if I want to add my own flare, practice it a few times and upload them to YouTube in the span of an hour or less....so, many aren't perfect, but I'd like to think passionate playing makes up for any little flaws! I also have a few originals on my channel that I wrote and performed all instruments. Hopefully more to come in the future!

Rush fue una banda canadiense de rock progresivo formada en 1968 en Toronto, Ontario. La formación se mantuvo estable desde 1974, cuando Neil Peart reemplazó al baterista original, John Rutsey, antes de su primera gira estadounidense. Estuvo integrada por el bajista, teclista y cantante Geddy Lee, el guitarrista Alex Lifeson y el batería y letrista Neil Peart.[1]
Desde el lanzamiento de su primer sencillo en 1973 y álbum debut homónimo en marzo de 1974, han sido reconocidos por su maestría musical, por sus complejas composiciones y por la ecléctica temática de sus letras, dominadas por la ciencia ficción, la fantasía, la filosofía libertaria y desarrollando también temas humanitarios, sociales, emocionales y medioambientales.[2][3]
Musicalmente, su estilo ha evolucionado a lo largo de los años; en sus primeros álbumes muestran una influencia del heavy metal inspirado en el blues muy semejante a los primeros trabajos hechos por Budgie. Luego incursionaron en el hard rock y rock progresivo, y tuvieron un período en el que predominó el uso de sintetizadores. Han influido a numerosos artistas y bandas, como Metallica,[4][5] The Smashing Pumpkins[6] y Primus,[6] además de bandas de metal progresivo como Queensrÿche,[1] Dream Theater[4] y Symphony X.[7]
En 2004, sus ventas totales a nivel mundial se estimaron en cuarenta millones de copias.[8] Hasta 2009, la banda había vendido solo en los Estados Unidos veinticinco millones de álbumes, según la agencia de certificación RIAA, que los sitúa en su lista de artistas con más ventas,[9] y que les ha otorgado 24 discos de oro y 14 de platino, 3 de ellos de multiplatino (más de dos millones de copias vendidas) por los álbumes de estudio 2112 (1976), Moving Pictures (1981) y el recopilatorio doble Chronicles (1990).[10] Según la RIAA, son también una de las bandas en obtener más certificaciones de oro o platino consecutivas detrás de bandas como The Beatles, The Rolling Stones o Aerosmith. Desde 1974 a 2012 han editado 20 álbumes de estudio, 9 álbumes en directo y 8 álbumes recopilatorios.[11]
Han recibido seis premios canadienses Juno,[12] además de entrar en el Canadian Music Hall of Fame en 1994.[13] Han sido nominados siete veces al Grammy, cinco de ellas a Mejor actuación de rock instrumental, las dos últimas en 2008 y 2009. Sus miembros son considerados instrumentistas habilidosos y han recibido individualmente reconocimientos de prestigiosas revistas. El 18 de abril de 2013 fueron incluidos en el Salón de la Fama del Rock.
En marzo del 2016, Lifeson confirmó que la banda no haría más giras mundiales debido a problemas de salud de Peart. Finalmente, en enero de 2018, Lifeson confirmó que tampoco se dedicaría a grabar más discos, y concluyó: "básicamente ya terminamos. Luego de 41 años, ya fue suficiente".[14]
